Sedgefield Borough helps to raise funds for Haiti Sedgefield Borough Homes’ employees gave a helping hand to Haiti by holding a dress down day on Friday, 29 January. Generous employees raised over £200 which has been matched by SBH to bring the total to a fantastic £504.70. The money has been donated to UNICEF, who has sent several teams to Haiti to provide clean water, shelter and save lives. Chief Executive of SBH Colin Steel says, “Our donation will help to provide over 50 families with basic water kits, helping them remain healthy during this crisis. We are pleased to support this gesture to benefit the Haiti relief operations.”

Scrap Thefts 27th Jan 2010 Over the weekend of 22nd – 24th January several incidents involving thefts of scrap have occurred in the Trimdon area. Vehicle parts and plumbing equipment have been taken from gardens, in particular in the Trimdon Grange area. One witness describes a white flat back vehicle with the registration number obscured visiting premises in the Berry Road area of Trimdon Grange, unfortunately no other information is available. Can residents be aware of possible rogue scrap collectors, collectors who don’t hold a valid permit issued by Durham County Council will face prosecution. Collectors who take scrap from properties without the householder’s permission commit the offence of theft. Anyone with information regarding any recent scrap theft in Trimdon please contact Trimdon Beat Officer John Seymour.

St Paul’s Church Clayton and Beverley Thompson from Fishburn have applied to Durham County Council for consent to turn the church into a four bedroom home. Planning permission had already been granted to convert the building into two separate dwellings. The plans propose minimal changes to the outside of the building with efforts made to protect its historic features. Gothic timber doors would be restored and the slate roof and copper cladding on the bell and clock tower would be retained.

Comment: I am researching my family tree, my GGGGreat Grandfather was William John Conkerton born 1845 in Trimdon, his mother was Maria Conkerton. His father is unknown, his Aunt was Phoeby Conkerton His grandfather was Joseph Conkerton and Frances Conkterton. They were all born in Trimdon.
