6th November 2007 TRIMDON UNITED U13 FOOTBALL REPORT Trimdon v Coulby Newham Challenge cup Following last Sunday’s demolition job on Consett Vipers in the Durham Cup – a massive 15 – 0 win, it would be expected that Trimdon’s players would be feeling confident and going for the kill in this match and indeed they showed great fighting spirit in the game. Coulby Newham were no pushovers however, having not lost a game since the season started they too were in buoyant mood and looking for another win. The game started at a fast pace with some great end to end football with Coulby going close – firing over the bar after only 2 minutes. This was answered by a tremendous run from Jonno Clemmett from the half way line to the 6 yard box where he fired hard at goal only for the shot to be parried by the keeper to safety. Trimdon were shading possession at this point and putting pressure on the Coulby defence. Sam Noble had a great effort just slide by the Coulby goal on 7 minutes. This was followed by another great break from Jonno but this time shooting just wide. Another good effort just missed on 22min when a furious break from Trimdon put Tom Lawson through – he had to hit it first time and did – unluckily sliding the ball just wide. Great effort hard fought and uncompromising from both teams in the first half ended 0-0 but could so easily have been 3 or 4 nil to Trimdon. Both Keepers did well did keep the score sheet blank. Second half – Coulby kicked off and 6 minutes in their pressure came good for them with a good goal. Trimdon seemed to lose a little shape after the goal and it became a little scrappy with sustained pressure from Coulby but the Trimdon defence was holding firm until 25 minutes in when Coulby grabbed another. Sam fired in a good free kick from 25 yards but it was cleared by Coulby and 2 minutes later their break away led to a 3rd goal. A fourth goal was to come in the dying seconds with not a little controversy – Coulby stepped up to take the penalty and it was a great strike heroically saved by the Trimdon keeper – only for the ref to have penalty retaken for an alleged minor infringement. He doesn’t normally get too much wrong that ref so we take a rain check on that decision. Trimdon’s man of the match was the tireless Danny Williams. Good fighting spirit shown in this game by everyone with no-one backing out of tackles and Trimdon were unfortunate not to get something from the game. The score line certainly didn’t show the true reflection of the game – better luck next week lads. To read the 2006/2007 newsletters click here. |
