Trimdon United v Darlington TSC under 13’s November 18th

The game was played at Darlington on a very heavy pitch and it was difficult for the lads to play smooth football carrying half a stone of mud on each boot. Trimdon started with a 4 - 3 – 3 formation hoping as ever to get some goals with the 3 forwards all keen to add to their tally’s. A good effort from Luke Walton on 5 minutes was saved well by the Darlington Keeper. Darlington were not shy themselves however answering with a good shot on 8 minutes saved well by the some-time Trimdon keeper Tom Robertshaw. Another spell of scrappy play where the Trimdon forwards were unable to get that final ball into the net, however at the other end whenever Darlington pressed the Trimdon defence of Luke , Louis , Jonno and Lanky held firm and easily pushed them back. Part way through the first half and it seemed every decision made by the Ref was going Darlington’s way. On 11 minutes a great break from Sam through to Luke Walton put Tom Lawson through with their keeper racing out to dispossess him in the nick of time – all Trimdon at this point with the Darlington lads falling out with themselves. 20 min in and a great shot into the box forced the Darlington defender to handle the ball (deliberate – should he have gone??). Big Sam Noble stepped up for the penalty and buried it. Darlington fought back with a good run and good shot which although he got a hand to it, Bob Shaw unluckily couldn’t hold and the score was 1 all. Trimdon kept pressing with 2 good corners from Sam cleared only for the ball to be rocketed back in by Jonno who shot just over the bar. Kieran Storey and Ryan Willis were having a busy time in the midfield virtually stopping the Darlington lads playing a passing game. 2 more great corners in the first half from Sam had Jonno Clemmett head powerfully over the bar and Kieran storey’s effort just cleared off the Darlington line. Another break had a tremendous shot from Luke Walton blast off the bar – so unlucky. End of 1st half 1-1 honours even though Trimdon could have been 5 or six ahead – completely in control.
Second half and Trimdon kicked off – with the pressure back on Darlington – Ryan having a great effort from 20 yards just clear their bar 2 minutes into half. The heavy pitch continued to hamper flowing football the next few minutes seemed like wading through treacle until Tom Lawson broke through on the left side and he was clear on goal only to be hauled back by the ref in a late decision.
Another period of scrappy play with chances to run through on goal being missed by Trimdon – ball getting under their feet or running into defenders. 20 mins in and suddenly Jonno breaks out pushing ball through to Luke Walton who shoots and forces keeper to save. Minutes later  a break from Darlington and the ball put through to a striker clearly 2 yards off side who shot wide – inexplicably the Ref blows and gave a free kick to Darlington just outside the box from which they score – Trimdon not sure what that was for. Fired on by this Trimdon push forward and when through on goal Kieran Henderson is upended and has to be carried off –nothing given. Play goes on with a corner for Trimdon. The pace quickens and the ball comes out to Casper Summerbell, who fired up, forces forward to shoot and Jonno picks up the rebound to slot home. Trimdon on fire now and Casper working hard again pushes ball through to Luke Walton who fires home to put Trimdon 3 – 2 up. Casper making a real difference since he came back on. A break on goal from Darlington is halted easily and cleanly by a great tackle from Vinnie (Calum) Jones but the ref who is 20 yards off the pace sees it differently - penalty to Darlington – they covert the penalty to make it 3-3 the final score.
The game was hard fought by the Trimdon team with all areas of the pitch doing well.
Tom Robertshaw great in goal and given no real chance from any of the goals
Defence solid and dependable - Louis outstanding first half
Mid field worked hard – made it difficult to play for Darlington
Forwards firing on all cylinders unlucky to not get more goals

Men of match – difficult to choose so many working hard this week:

Jonno Clemmett – all over the pitch and scoring a good goal (with help from Casper)
Luke Casson – playing left back (out of position) and stood solid all game
