26th November 2007 Trimdon United u13 v Leven fc U13 Sunday 25th of November 1.30pm kick off at Leven in the County Cup 3rd round Trimdons first time through to the 3rd round of the county cup and we get drawn away against Leven afc who are 2nd in the second division so we are expecting a hard time from this team but as ever the Trimdon team are confident they can get something from the game. The same attacking formation of 4 - 3 - 3 is utilised to push hard into Leven’s defence and Trimdon are looking for some goals. The game starts at a fast pace and is pretty much end to end stuff right from the beginning. Five mins in a good run from Tom Summerbell who crosses only for the sharp looking Leven keeper to race out and collect. Leven immediately counter and force Tom Robertshaw to make a good a save – pushing the ball out for a corner which Trimdon then defend well. 10 mins in and a great break from Sam is halted once again by the very swift Leven keeper racing off his line to dispossess Sam. Sam learns quickly from this and 2 mins later from 25yds he fires over the keeper who is miles off his line trying his closing down trick – fabulous goal and Trimdon go 1 up on the startled Leven Eleven. Trimdon with their noses in front push hard to increase their lead with great runs from Tom Lawson, Sam Noble and Luke Walton all being halted by the speed of the Keeper getting off his line. The game stays exciting with end to end stuff with both Keepers being strong and keeping their sides in the game until a corner form Leven is scrambled over the line by Leven to equalise on 23 mins. Nothing Bobshaw could do about that one. Leven get their tails up a little and on 30 mins they have a great shot which Bobshaw can only push onto the post then it trickles in. Half time 2 – 1 to Leven and the better team is behind mainly due to the excellent Leven Keeper who has cut short endless attacks from Trimdon by racing out to help his defenders. Second half starts with a great attack from Luke Walton followed by another, this time from Tom Lawson with both chances being cleared. 7 mins in and another 6 yard box scramble sees Leven get another scrappy goal. Trimdon carry on attacking with good efforts from Sam and Kieran Storey being saved. On 15 min a good corner from Leven sees their useful looking number 8 turn on the ball and power it home from 12 yards. Trimdon never give up with great attacks from the forwards and on 20 min it paid off with hard work from Luke Walton getting the ball to Tom Lawson on the 18yard line but with his back to goal he just lays it perfectly back to Sam who thumps the ball into the back of the net for his second screamer of the day. 3 minutes later and Ryan Willis is mauled mercilessly in the mid field and should have been given a free kick, instead the Leven defender pushed the ball through to their centre forward who scored a well taken but undeserved goal – definitely a foul leading to the goal. Trimdon attack again – good work from Casper and Luke Walton who shoots and the keeper saves his defence’s blushes again. Leven counter quickly and this time score a good goal to make it 6-2 to Leven. The end to end stuff continues with yet another goad goal from Leven – it seems like every shot is good one now and the Trimdon Keeper is given no chance. Dying seconds of the game and Vinnie (Calumn) Jones pops up for a shot on goal well saved from the Leven keeper – this guy is easily their man of the match and saved them countless times. The score flattered the Leven team and it seems the gap between top of the 2nd division and us in the 4th isn’t that wide at all. Some good positives to take away from this game with the whole team showing great determination and strength all over the pitch. Bobshaw really played well between the sticks and didn’t have much of a chance with any of the goals – nor did Scotty when he came on. Defence and mid field battled hard against some decent looking players from Leven. Forwards created chance after chance after chance. All the subs when they came on played well with Vinnie almost scoring and Daz Humphries tough tackling and darting runs looking very sharp. Men of the match – difficult again this week could so easily have gone to Tom Robertshaw for his great effort in goal but finally settled on Big Sam Noble – 2 superb goals Luke Walton – usual work rate To read the 2006/2007 newsletters click here. |
