2nd December 2007 Trimdon United U13 v Bishop St Mary’s 2nd December 2007 away An away match against a Bishop team who have risen to 3rd in the table with some decent results recently – sitting just above Trimdon in the League. Trimdon start quickly with a good break from Ryan Willis down the right side, who centres the ball perfectly but the Bishop keeper is quick off the mark and collects well. Bishop answer with a good run of their own and Tom Robertshaw, between the sticks again this week, collects safely. After only 7 minutes Trimdon have a great break from Tom Lawson on the left side where he cuts inside for a good shot – this well parried by the Bishop keeper only for the ball to bounce in front of the speedy Luke Walton who fires a good shot in to score and put Trimdon one up. Great work both lads. This break was repeated seconds later by Tom and Luke – this time firing just wide. Bishop press hard only to be rebuffed by the ever strong Jonno Clemmett who pushes the ball out left and the sequence is repeated again – Tom Lawson through to Luke Walton – this time firing over the bar –all Trimdon now. Bishop only got forward a hand full of times in the first half but every chance they created was knocked back by the solid defending of Trimdon and excellent work in goal from bobshaw. Some hard tackling in midfield from Ryan Willis when needed and determination – nothing getting past him and his distribution is spot on allowing forwards to run into space on a number of occasions. Good corner form Sam Noble on 20 minutes reaches Jonno who blasts the ball goal ward but hits a defender and the ball bounces over to the lucky keeper to collect and clear. The defender who got in the way of Jonno’s shot not so lucky stayed down for 2 or 3 minutes to recover from the power of the shot. Maybe Jonno should be wearing a health warning “anyone who gets in the way of my shots does so at their own risk”. 25 minutes in and some great dribbling and fancy footwork from Kieran Storey allows him to put the ball through to Sam who does the business and Trimdon are 2 goals up – excellent work. On 30 minutes Trimdons domination pays off again with brilliant work in midfield by Ryan and Kieran getting the ball though to Sam who shoots, the ball comes back off the keeper and Tom Lawson is there to slot home for a 3 – 0 lead at half time. Second half kicks off with Bishop having a good effort from an early corner well defended by Bobshaw. Ball straight up to other end and Sam tries to chip keeper from 25 yards – just wide. Still all Trimdon 10 mins in to second half – Sam pops in a good corner which Luke Walton heads hard only to be saved by keeper. Bishop not lying down now though with some decent attacks. Controversy on 15 min when Luke Walton forces though on a great run into Bishop’s 18 yard box and is hacked to the ground but the Ref gives nothing. – Definitely a penalty not given. On 18 minutes Bishop have a break and press forward shooting hard at goal – Bobshaw could only push it back out for the striker to power home the rebound. 3-1 now but Trimdon still by far the better team. With 10 minutes to go Bishop find new wind and press hard with good attacks and a great corner from them just headed over the bar. It’s end to end stuff with Trimdon having good efforts from Luke Walton well saved. With only 3 minutes left a break on goal sees Bishop score and their tails are up. From the kick off Bishop steal the ball and immediately reply again to make the score 3-3 - what’s going on? Final piece of controversy in the last minute when Luke Walton picks up the ball 20 yards out and ghosts past 2 defenders to be clear on goal only for the ref to give offside. This really was hard to swallow for the Trimdon team who worked hard, were the better team by far. Credit to bishop for not giving up but if decisions had gone our a couple of times we would have been out of sight. Man of the match could have been anyone but settled on Ryan Willis in midfield for determination, strength and skill. To read the 2006/2007 newsletters click here. |
