January 27th 2008 Trimdon U13 v Darlington TSC U13 home 27th Jan 2008 All the remaining matches of the season are big matches and this is the first one we really need to win. Injuries have been piling up recently with Kieran Storey out with a broken foot – he joins Kieran Henderson on crutches – incidentally it was against the opposition today that Hendo sustained the injury that is keeping him out for the rest of the season. The last time we played them it seemed like nothing went our way with every decision by the ref going to Darlington so it was with expectations of a completely different game today and we had high hopes. Trimdon kick off into a bracing wind and within a minute knock the ball left through to Tom Lawson who feeds Sam Noble and Sam puts Daz Humphries through on goal. Daz hits it first time left footed but the keeper is able to save well. The Darlo side clear the ball out only for it to come back to Sam who shoots himself this time – just wide. All Trimdon in the opening minutes, playing some great football up to the final ball but not quite finishing. Against the run of play and from a long ball a Darlington midfielder chances his luck with a 30 yard lob – with the sun and the wind in his eyes Scotty is unable to climb to meet the shot and Darlo go one ahead. In the next minute there were great breaks from Trimdon on both sides with excellent crosses from Daz and Luke Walton giving Sam a couple of chances - one shot just wide and the keeper scrambling the next away with Sam bearing down on him. More chances created by Trimdon, who are playing good football, give both Sam and Luke some shooting opportunities but not finishing cleanly the chances go by. Daz is really coming into his own this last 2 or 3 weeks and is making great runs and tackling well – on 15 minutes his latest run is clattered by a Darlo lad and he wins a free kick from 30 yards out. Sam thunders the ball towards Darlo’s goal but the decent keeper manages to hold onto it. All the quality play is from Trimdon with TSC relying on the long ball approach which the Trimdon defence of Jack, Lanky, Luke, Danny and Louie are mopping up easily. 20 minutes in and Tom Lawson breaks on the left and passes to Ryan Willis who has a half decent shot saved by the keeper. 32 minutes in Luke W and Sam link up well with Sam hammering another shot at the TSC goal which just slid by the post. On 38 minutes another lone break form TSC sees a good shot fly into the Trimdon goal – 2 – 0 at half time. Trimdon must have had 30 shots on goal but no reward and TSC have 2 with 2 goals to reward their work. At half time some fresh legs in the form of Casper Summerbell come on to give a lift to Trimdon and 8 minutes in this pays off when he does some great work in mid field and puts the ball through to tom Lawson who makes the shot look easy and fires past the TSC keeper – 2 – 1. Good work Casper and great goal Tom. 2 minutes later though a great corner from TCS is headed in and they go 3 -1 up stretching the lead again. Five minutes later and Darlington, who have definitely improved this half go on to score another goal and things are looking bleak for us at 4 -1 down with only 20 minutes to recover the situation. Trimdon weren’t lying down though and immediately attack again with Daz having a great run through and shot on goal just go inches outside the post. 25 minutes into the second half TSC get a free kick from 20 yards which Scotty bravely collects, with the TSC man bearing down on him, only to be flattened by a kick to the face from the attacking forward – luckily he’s OK. Some really determined play from both sides with no-one shirking from tackles in this half. 30 minutes in and Luke Walton does some great work around the 18 yard line but he is blocked off and has to knock it back to Daz who shoots from 30 yards - his effort just flew over the bar. Another corner from Darlo on 32 minutes is knocked into the Trimdon net – they really are good at set pieces and go 5 – 1 up – no way back now for Trimdon who have made 10 chances for every one from TSC but we haven’t put them away today. Some great link up work between Casper and Daz forces a corner. Louie, who has had a good game in defence, gets a bit of a nose bleed by getting so far up the pitch but from the corner he fires home a good consolation goal. Great performances from Tom Lawson and Casper when he came on but man of the match goes to Daz Humpries who was the best player on the pitch today. To read the 2006/2007 newsletters click here. |
