TRIMDON UNITED NEWSLETTER EIGHTEEN
February 10th 2008

Thirsk Falcons U13 V Trimdon UTD U13

An away match against Thirsk and everyone wondering which Trimdon are going to turn up – Dr Jekyll or the ugly Mr Hide from last week that had to fight to get a draw against bottom side Brompton. Well we were not to be disappointed.

Trimdon kick off on a glorious sunny afternoon with near perfect conditions to play football in. Immediately Thirsk have break on goal but Scotty is off his line swiftly and collects confidently. Trimdon pick up the ball and win a free kick from 25 yards on 3 minutes which big Sam Noble hammers just over the bar. 2 minutes later a break by Tom Lawson puts Casper Summerbell through who shoots and the keeper saves well. The pressure stays on Thirsk’s defence with a great corner from Sam just being cleared by the keeper. Thirsk are not shy in coming forward themselves but are being frustrated by Trimdon’s excellent midfield with Louie Cudworth and Ryan Willis and then the back four behind them letting nothing go through. 7 minutes in and their best attack is thumped back at them by Jack Fannan who along with James (Lanky) Clarke is looking very sharp in central defence.

Trimdon having it all their own way with good shots from Sam being well saved and constant attacks on the Thirsk goal. On 10 minutes this pays off with another perfectly delivered corner from Sam that reaches Jack F – who shoots once and then again – he slots it in from the rebound – 1 – 0 to Trimdon. Trimdon show Great Spirit all over the pitch with hard work, hard tackles and good football. 15 minutes in and an excellent delivery from Ryan puts Sam through who shoots as the decent Thirsk keeper races out to meet him and the ball goes out of play. A minute later and some good work from Daz Humpries puts Sam through who again shoots hard – the keeper could only parry it into the path of Casper who puts it away nicely to go 2 – 0 up. Thirsk answer quickly when from the kick off they race through and score a well taken goal to peg us back to 2 – 1. It’s tasty football now though from Trimdon with excellent work from Louie allowing Ryan to get a great shot on goal from 25 yards which the keeper did well to save. Thirsk still battling though force a break and a good attack is halted by a great save from Scotty bravely hurling himself at the striker’s feet to collect. Minutes later he repeats the work with a great save from a good shot by Thirsk quickly followed by another - great work Scotty!!

Trimdon still dominating though with great work right though the team. 27 minutes and Luke Casson puts Casper through for another effort which just misses. At the other side of the pitch Danny Williams is doing his usual work mopping up and distributing well.

28 minutes in and a perfect corner from Sam is driven into the box and Tom Lawson heads powerfully at goal – the keeper saves and did well to stop a certain goal. More shots from Sam and Ryan in the last minutes of the first half but it ends 2 – 1.

Second half starts like the first half ended with Trimdon dominating the plucky Thirsk lads who are not a bad team at all but they can’t match Trimdon’s desire today. Shots from all over the pitch – Sam having a 30 yard effort just clear the bar on 7 minutes in then Casper just misses from their keeper’s poor goal kick – Thirsk answer quickly though and have a good break and shot from 18 yards shepparded out by Scotty. After 10 minutes of the half one of the best goals of the season, with Sam Noble shooting from Tesco’s car park and beating the keeper – he must have been 40 yards out - I don’t go that far for my holidays. 3-1 to Trimdon. Thirsk try to raise their game with a series of attacks which Lanky, Jack, Luke and Danny deal with well – no route through. Luke Walton and Jack Cairns come on in the second half and both are playing well – Luke looking busy and gets in a couple of shots on goal.

After 20 minutes another great clearance from Jack Fannan is put into the path of Luke Walton who running on scores a good goal. 4-1 and Trimdon looking like a team this week. The attacks are relentless - Jack Cairns feeding in a good lob which allows a great shot from Ryan which is pushed away by the keeper – more shots from Sam – we could easily have had a dozen goals. On 32 minutes Sam works the ball to Luke Walton who shoots then picks up the rebound and works hard with it but blocked off can’t get a shot on goal. The ball comes out to Tom Lawson and from 20 yards he volleys the ball with so much venom he could have broke the net – superb goal. Still more shots and attacks could have had another 3 or 4 goals before the whistle but it ends on 5-1.

This was a great display of football against a good Thirsk side who never gave up at all.

Man of the match – harder than ever this week to pick with outstanding performances from Scotty, Jack Fannan, Ryan, Louie and then there were possibly the two best goals in league matches this year from Tom and Sam.

Settled on Lanky Clarke this week for solid defensive work all shift.
