February 17th 2008 Trimdon United U13 v Bishop St Mary’s - home Two good matches against Bishop this season both ending all square bode well for a third tight match. Bishop are sitting just above us and fighting for a 3rd in league position. Bishop start well with some good breaks down the left and through the middle with their big centre forward looking very dangerous. On 5 minutes another break from them is closed down well by Scotty racing off his line to dispossess the big number 9. Two more quick successive attacks from bishop are closed down again by Scotty who is looking sharp and brave again this week. The pressure is maintained and another break on the left sees a good cross which their striker buries – 1-0 to bishop on 11 minutes. Trimdon respond well with breaks and shots from Tom Lawson just clearing the bar, followed by good work between Daz Humphries and Tom (Casper) Summerbell ending with another shot well saved by the Bishop keeper who is also very sharp. The game seems to be poorly co-ordinated with neither team controlling, Bishop perhaps having the best of it with some decent passing play whilst Trimdon at times look like they are just out to clear the ball instead of getting a name on it. Good work in midfield from Ryan Willis and Louie is keeping Bishop from running right through us this week. Scotty continues to confound the regular Bishop attacks with good work right through the first half. Last minutes of the first half and Trimdon make a good break on the right side by Daz who gets the ball to Luke Walton – Luke works hard but is pushed out right and with no-one in the box has to shoot from a narrow angle and the keeper saves. More good work from Luke W gives Tom Lawson another shot on 31 minutes which fades wide. Bishop come straight back with an excellent attack and but for Scotty’s brave keeping we would have lost another goal. In the last minute Trimdon have a corner from which Louie tries an overhead kick, then a free kick from 30 yards which Sam noble blasts at the wall to no effect. Half time 1 - 0 Bishop. Second half starts like the first – not great football – pretty scrappy – some decent defending from Danny Williams and from Lanky Clarke is complimented by Jack Cairns who is playing well since he came on. 12 minute into second half and the same break on the left side with a decent cross is knocked in for Bishop to go 2 up – a carbon copy of the first goal. Trimdon can’t seem to pull it together and aren’t passing the ball to each other like they did last week. On 22 minutes a long ball from Bishop finds their striker who makes it 3 – 0. 27 minutes in and a chance for Luke W who does a double shuffle to confuse the keeper before shooting but he is sharp and still makes a good save. The game ends 3 0 to Bishop who played the better passing play, however Trimdon stuck at the job all the way though to the end showing good spirit across the team – it just wasn’t our day. MOM – not our best display of football but 3 players stood out today Ryan Willis / Lanky Clarke and Scotty who had a great game To read the 2006/2007 newsletters click here. |
