Trimdon U13 v St Francis 2000            away

A test for Trimdon today playing against a much improved St Francis 2000 (who have recently beaten second in league Grangetown). Trimdon travel with only the basic 11 men and no reserves to call on – let’s hope no-one gets injured.

Trimdon kick of with a very strong cross wind affecting the ball for both teams but a quick break from Daz Humphries down the right gets the ball to Sam Noble who is unlucky not to get his decent shot on target in the opening minute. Sam is paired with Jack Fannan up front and they are looking sharp – Jack working hard to win 2 consecutive corners on 5 minutes which are cleared by St Francis. On ten minute St Francis signal their intent with a great shot clattering the bar which was set up by their swift left winger. 15 minutes in and Sam takes a couple of players on but can’t get a sight of goal so knocks it back to Ryan Willis who has a good effort saved by the keeper. Seconds later at the other end Lanky Clarke tackles hard in his own box and the ref adjudges it to be a penalty which St Francis take and score from – no chance for Scotty with that one. Trimdon answer immediately though when from a throw in Jack Fannan receives the ball and thumps it home - 1 all. 25 minutes in and St Francis have a great break through the middle and with their striker bearing down on goal Scotty races out to collect bravely.

Jack Fannan is looking like a proper forward making good runs in and on the keeper – Sam feeds him another chance on 30 min which Jack gets on the end of and tries to lob the keeper but just clears the bar – unlucky. The defence of Trimdon is holding up well with solid work from Jack Cairns, Lanky, Danny Williams and Luke Casson – Luke making a great clearance on 33 minutes up to Ryan who spectacularly takes on and beats 4 players but unfortunately he didn’t get hold of the shot – shades of Ronaldo in there. Luke next feeds Jack Fannan who flies down the wing, cuts in and shoots only just wide – good distribution from defence and a great effort from the ‘new’ striker…….

Across the middle Ryan, Daz, Kieran Storey and Tom Lawson are all working hard to keep the ball in St Francis’s half for most of the game.

Second half and 2 minutes in Daz shoots from 35 yards but the keeper collects -  the ball is knocked up field quickly and again Scotty races out to collect very well.

15 minutes in and St Francis break on goal – Scotty flies out but is injured and the Hartlepool team score to go 2 – 1 up. Scotty has to go off with an injured hand and with no reserves Kieran Story volunteers to go in goal – Trimdon facing it now – behind and down to 10 men – things are looking bleak.

Backs to the wall the Trimdon lads respond like pro’s - attacking crisply and tough defending being the order of the day – Jack Cairns showing well today is letting nothing past. On 16 minutes a free kick from 25 yards from Sam is hammered into the top corner like an exocet missile – what a goal and the team visibly lift up in spirits. The attacking continues with a good shot from Sam on 17 minutes followed by good link up between Daz, through to Sam who cuts outside and crosses the ball for Jack Fannan to head his second of the day. Trimdon 3 -2 up. Sam is feeling confident and on 21 mins tries another of his Tesco specials from 45 yards which just misses. On 25 minutes Trimdon go further ahead when Jack Fannan tears through and past the keeper who has raced out to meet him but is too late and Jack gets another – 4 – 2 – no way back for St Francis. A soft penalty on 31 minutes gets a goal back for Francis – it was well taken and gave Storey no chance but no one could see why it was given. In the last minute a great clearance from Danny who puts it inch perfect in front of Tom Lawson – Tom runs hard at goal and is scythed down in what looked like a real penalty but nothing given and eventually the ref blows for full time. This was a great display of football – coming from behind with a man down showed just what this team is capable of. Great performances from a number of players not least Fannan who played well up front.

MOM this week goes to Jack Cairns for solid central defensive work
