| CHURCH NEWS for March 2008 | We have finally been able to devote a full DCC Meeting at the end of January to the subject of Pastoral Issues with the help and guidance of our three clergy. Three groups mulled over ideas that could be beneficial and sustainable. There will be regular review of how things are going in order to maintain our initial ideas and develop others. Some suggestions will take time to develop and put into practice and others can start straight away. Here’s what’s being done now.
- We think there may be people who would appreciate a lift to church and back on a Sunday morning, so if you are one of those people, please let Lesley Tate know.
- Music in church needn’t be dull, so we’re hoping to liven it up a bit from Easter onwards.
- Communicating regularly with a wide spectrum of people is far from easy, but we’re determined to make better use of the magazine, Trimdon Messenger, Trimdon Times website and emails.
- We’re going to reach out in a more personal way to bereaved families.
- We are encouraging children to better grow in faith by providing children’s bibles for use in Sunday School and providing colouring sheets relevant to the day’s theme to take home.
- We want to create a church logo to use on stickers or badges for children who visit our church.
This is only the beginning and one of the ways we want to spread the Good News of the gospel to people in Trimdon.

If you are wondering what has happened about installing a toilet in church, this is still very much in the forefront of our thinking, but we can only move forward on this when plans and permissions are sorted out. Those cogs turn maddeningly slowly!!
The church building has just undergone a thorough electrical check and only minor problems have been highlighted. These will be attended to shortly.
In partnership with Trimdon Parish Council, it is hoped that the drive and turning circle, which is part of the village green, can be upgraded. Much as we would wish to improve parking, this is beyond the scope of an upgrading project. We therefore ask that people visiting church in cars remain sensitive to keeping the village green in good condition.
Every July we celebrate the Patronal Festival of St Mary Magdalene with a Flower Festival. This year is a little bit special because it will celebrate 25 years of Flower Festivals in our church. The dates to put in your diary are Friday July 18th, Saturday July 19th and Sunday July 20th. If anyone would like to get involved in this special occasion, please contact Lesley Tate.
Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday, April 14th at 7.30 in church. Everyone is welcome and those on the Electoral Roll will be eligible to vote for members of the St Mary Magdalene District Church Council.
An Evening of Words & Music
WOW! That was the opening of an email received after the Evening of Words and Music in Bishop Auckland Town Hall on January 26th. A very appreciative audience was entertained by Trimdon Mail Voice Choir, Fishburn Brass Band, Yarm Border Players and Eileen Glenton, accompanied by George Hetherington. St Mary Magdalene Church is indebted to Edith and Bob Meadham (alias Mark Robberts) who organised the event, also the wonderful entertainers, the behind the scenes workers and the appreciative audience. A total of £566 was raised for church funds.
