24th January 2007 Our game against Thirsk Falcons proved to be a hard midfield battle with both teams on fine form and not willing to give an inch. This set the scene for an exciting game and for Trimdon to prove a point. Nobody was left disappointed. The first half was very evenly matched with Trimdon slightly having the edge over the Falcons however good chances were wasted on both sides and unfortunately for us Thirsk took the lead. The score at half time was 1-0. The second half was just as exciting as the first and we had several chances but we just couldn’t score! It seemed to be one of those days and to add to our disappointment Thirsk scored again, leaving us 2-0 down. However the lads never gave up and our efforts paid off when Callum Findlay took control with a great move and pulled one back for us. Well done Callum! This was the boost we needed and we pressed hard, challenging the Falcons defence. Not long after the first goal, number two come along in the form of an own goal after a battle in the Thirsk goal mouth. This levelled the score 2-2. The last fifteen minutes of the game proved to be nail biting finish as Thirsk came back to life. Luckily with a cool defence and confidence in the ever dependable Ryan we held out and the game finished in a 2-2 draw which probably was a fair result for both teams. Every single one of you contributed today and you all played exceptionally well and you should feel very proud. Vinnie was on exceptional form as was lanky and they both rightly deserved to be man of the match so well done lads. And finally because of all your hard work and effort, we are now top of the league!!! Keep it up lads and well done to you all. Finally a big thank you to the parents for turning out and offering your support and also to Reg who received a special handshake from the referee for entertaining the crowd with his off side flag!! (Few dodgy decisions we think but mustn’t mock the multi talented linesman/first Aider!!) |
